Like with anything new it takes time to adjust. This week has been adjustment week for us; I've been getting Shae up at 7:10 am and driving her to school at 7:45 am. Andrew has been getting Gavin up and down to breakfast, then driving him and Elania to school at 8:45 am. (this has been a big feat for Gavin who normally doesn't wake up till 9:30 or 10am)
All this early school prep has had us getting to bed at the same time as the kids, so sleepy each evening.
I was in a late morning meeting when the phone rings its Shae on the phone, I say "Hey Shae what do you need?" She's says 'Mom, its 3 o'clock, I've been waiting an hour for you to pick me up!' I slam down the phone and run out the door, I was absorbed in the meeting and completely forgot to pick her up at 2pm.
I felt like such a horrible mother. I apologized up and down when I got there, the principle said not to worry about it, she's at the school till 4 or 5 pm, but said she had Shae call as she could tell that Shae was getting anxious. Obviously I'm not in the groove yet, I'm still cringing as I'm writing this.
It was such a relief this morning to not have to be worried about the time this morning and just relax with the kids in bed (Saturday is our new day off with the kids).

Oh boy I empathies with you. C is in 1st grade now and for the first year I've finally tweaked our routine so that it's actually smooth sailing. His first year in school (Pre-K) I got a call from school an hour after he was supposed to be picked up asking if I was ok. We had just changed to/from Daylight Savings (I don't remember which) and my cell phone for some reason didn't change times like it should have. I felt like the worst mom ever and cried my emotional/pregnant self all the way to school. Since then I've had so many mom's confess to having been in similar situations. Trust me, it gets a lot easier.
